[A Year In Review] 2013

This year brought many changes and adventures! Not only did Dean get to go on seven different planes and two road trips, but he also reached many milestones and celebrated his first birthday!Thank you to everyone who shared in our year. 🙂

First plane ride : Went to Whitehorse, YK to visit my parents in January. It was quite cold and D wasn’t impressed when we took him on a 15 minute walk in -15C weather, regardless of how bundled up he was!

D started solids – “Bananacado” and yams were a big hit.

At four months, he started inch worm crawling. Then at five and a half months, he learned to army crawl. He was crawling on his hands and knees by seven months. Suddenly, nothing was safe!

At a few days shy of six months, someone learned to sit up!

First Family Vacation to Hawaii in June (D was 9 months old) It was a relaxing holiday and was a perfect destination with a baby! D was great on the plane ride – even though he was teething both times!

D enjoyed many playdates, birthday parties and park visits with friends. Engie (and mom Jess) and Ollie (and mom Jen) lived close by so we spent many walks and dates with them!

In July, a few friends, D and I took part in The Underwear Affairs Booty Hunt. It was a scavenger hunt throughout downtown Vancouver. One task was to show “10 and 2” at the Steam Clock in Gastown. D joined in. (We did Avengers theme – I was Captain America and D was the Hulk)

In August, we moved from our one bedroom and den apartment in Burnaby to a three bedroom house with huge backyard in Surrey. It took a bit to adjust living in a house but we’ve quickly made it into a home and we are loving the space! Dean and Lilo enjoy having a backyard to run free in.

Dean turned ONE! We celebrated with 30 of our close friends and family in the yard of our new house for a firetruck themed birthday party.

In August, Daddy, Dean, Lilo and I packed up the car and drove to Alberta to visit with my Aunt, Uncle and cousins. My Aunt came back to Vancouver with us to visit some family and friends out here. Then D and I, along with my Aunt, flew up to Whitehorse to visit my parents again. We had a blast! There was a road trip to Alaska and D’s first boat, kayak AND atv rides! We were sad to leave but we’re planning an early-2014 trip up there again with Daddy (first time he will be coming with us)

D started daycare in October and I began hunting for a career change. I decided to stay with nannying and have returned to work three days a week, leaving me with extra days to spend with Dean. D loves daycare and is incredibly happy to spend time with friends there!

A trip to the Pumpkin Patch on Thanksgiving weekend. D wasn’t too sure about carving them – he didn’t like the feeling of the pumpkin guts at first, but then liked squishing it with his feet!
Picture
D made a very cute Minion – unfortunately, we didn’t go Trick or Treating as he wasn’t feeling very well. But he enjoyed handing out candy at home. We did manage to go Trick or Treating a couple days before at Dad’s work, where they host an event for kids indoors.

We moved our guest room bed into D’s room to start the transition to Big Boy Bed. He hasn’t slept in it for the whole night, but it’s great for those times during the night he needs to snuggle to settle.

Another milestone : My little man learned to walk down the stairs, by himself, while holding the rail. Then a week later, he mastered doing a set of three stairs without holding onto anything!

December was a busy month : Bright Nights, Photos with Santa, Breakfast with Santa on Grouse Mountain, cutting down our own tree at the Dogwood Tree Farm, building a snowman and Christmas at Canada Place is just a few of the things we did! While he wasn’t a fan of Santa close up, he did like waving and high-fiving the big guy.
